At 9th Mile in Changlang, the Tuhi Veneer Mill (plywood industry) has been operating for years under the supervision of Kamlu Mossang. A 20-year-old youth, Raju Bhuyan from the Bogaribari area of Charaideo district, Assam was employed at the mill.

On February 22, Raju Bhuyan was allegedly stabbed in the chest with a dagger by his co-worker, Aditya Roy, at the sleeping quarters of the workplace. He succumbed to his injuries and the accused fled the scene that same night.

Office-bearers of the All Adivasi Student Association of Assam (AASAA), Charaideo district committee, along with support from the Tinsukia district committee, visited 9th Mile in Changlang to inquire into the incident.

In the matter, members of AASAA alleged that the Changlang police and district administration refrained from providing cooperation to them.

As a result, on Saturday, the AASAA Tinsukia district committee in collaboration with the AASAA Margherita Regional Committee and Dehing Patkai Regional Committee, along with hundreds of people, staged a protest by blocking the road at Margherita connecting Assam and Arunachal Pradesh.

AASAA stated that it would not rest until the accused is arrested. The organisation also demanded that the owner of Tuhi Veneer Mill provide one-time financial assistance to the deceased’s family members.

The several-hour-long road blockade left many vehicles from Assam and Arunachal Pradesh stranded.
