KOKRAJHAR, March 1: A two-day residential nature camp was successfully organised on Saturday and Sunday under the Environmental Education Programme of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Government of India, at Chakrashila Wildlife Sanctuary in Kokrajhar.
The programme was implemented and supported by the Assam Science Technology and Environment Council (ASTEC), Government of Assam. The camp was led by Dr Mehdi Al Kausor, Coordinator, Eco Club, Science College, Kokrajhar.
The programme featured enriching sessions by distinguished resource persons including Bablu Dey, Director of Green Heart Nature Club, Kokrajhar and Dr Sanjib Brahma, Vice Principal, Science College Kokrajhar. Dr Nilotpal Saha, Assistant Professor, Commerce College Kokrajhar and Dr Huiyang Narzary, Assistant Professor, Department of Botany, Kokrajhar University, also shared valuable insights. Dr Babla Ch Ghosh and Dr Priyanka Basumatary from Science College Kokrajhar participated as nominated teacher representatives.
Pankaj Chakravarty, District Commissioner of Kokrajhar, attended the evening session on the first day as Guest of Honour. Dr Ada Ram Basumatary, Principal, Girls’ College Kokrajhar, graced the occasion as Chief Guest, while Dr Rabindra Mahato, Principal (i/c) of the host college, addressed the gathering. Faculty members of Science College Kokrajhar were also present.
The camp featured a series of field-based activities aimed at enhancing environmental awareness and practical learning. A PowerPoint presentation on biodiversity conservation set the academic tone of the programme, followed by an early morning nature trail inside Chakrashila Wildlife Sanctuary, where participants explored the rich biodiversity of the area. Students engaged in bird watching, wildlife trailing and identification of local flora and fauna, gaining firsthand knowledge of the region’s ecosystem. The programme also included hands-on field learning sessions on ecosystem conservation and wildlife protection. Group discussions and preparation of scientific data sheets were conducted on contemporary environmental challenges and sustainable practices.
Altogether, 45 students and eight teachers from various colleges actively participated in the camp. The programme focused on biodiversity awareness, environmental conservation, field-based learning and eco-friendly practices. The camp concluded on March 1 evening with a pledge to protect nature and promote sustainable living, leaving participants inspired towards environmental stewardship.
