KOHIMA, March 20: Nagaland has recorded notable progress in improving major health indicators,with a significant decline in the Infant Mortality Rate (IMR) and improvements in the Maternal Mortality Ratio (MMR) and Total Fertility Rate (TFR), reflecting enhanced maternal and child healthcare services in the state.
This was informed by the Health Department during a meeting with the Governor of Nagaland, Nand Kishore Yadav, held at the Naga Bhavan Conference Hall in Kohima. The meeting was led by the Secretary of Health & Family Welfare, S Tainiu, where officials presented a detailed overview of the state’s socio-demographic profile, health infrastructure and key achievements through a power-point presentation.
The department highlighted progress under the National TB Elimination Programme (NTEP), including improved case detection and treatment outcomes. However, officials noted that certain areas, such as timely disbursement under the Ni-Kshay Poshan Yojana and patient adoption, require further attention and improvement.
The Governor appreciated the efforts of the department in strengthening healthcare delivery and improving key health indicators. He stressed the importance of continued focus on effective implementation of health programmes, particularly in remote and rural areas and urged the department to ensure accessible and quality healthcare for all citizens.
