Garima, after planting the sapling, told newspersons that Zubeen, who was very fond of the Nahor tree had wanted to plant another tree at the premises following the dying of a Nahor tree planted by him earlier.

Stating that Zubeen had a deep attachment towards the earlier tree he had planted, which had grown very tall, she said that whenever Zubeen came to Jorhat, he used to visit the tree even after midnight and would hug and talk to it.

Garima said that a branch of the tree had fallen on the roof of the house and damaged the tin sheet over the room in which Zubeen had once resided, adding that this incident occurred on October 29, 2024 and seemed to presage the death of Zubeen on September 19, 2025.

She said Zubeen had planned to plant a tree at the house compound during his proposed participation in the centenary celebrations of Bongal Pukhuri Durga Puja in 2025, but his wish remained unfulfilled.

Garima further said that the house had been sold to a businessman in 2003 and she had visited the place on May 1, during which she held discussions with the owner regarding planting a tree.

She added that as the Jontro band formed by Zubeen was scheduled to perform at the Central Rongali Bihu programme in Jorhat, she took the opportunity to fulfil Zubeen’s wish of planting a tree along with the band members.
