DIBRUGARH, May 23: Acting on the directives of the District Commissioner of Dibrugarh, officials of the Food, Public Distribution and Consumer Affairs (FPD&CA) Department carried out an inspection drive in the busy Marwaipatty area of the town to ensure compliance with government regulations related to price and stock transparency.
During the inspection, the team emphasised the need to maintain fair trade practices and directed all wholesalers and retailers operating within the Dibrugarh Municipal Area to strictly adhere to prescribed government norms.
Officials instructed traders to prominently display updated Price and Stock Boards at their establishments to ensure consumers have access to accurate and transparent pricing information.
Wholesalers were also directed to issue proper cash memos and invoices to retailers for every transaction to maintain accountability and transparency in business dealings.
The inspection team further directed traders to regularly maintain essential business records, including books of accounts, stock registers, purchase records and sales registers.
According to officials, proper documentation is necessary for effective monitoring and regulatory compliance.
The officials also highlighted the mandatory implementation of provisions under the Essential Commodities Act and other related government directives.
They warned that strict legal action would be taken against any trader found violating the rules. The drive was conducted as part of the district administration’s ongoing efforts to protect consumer rights and ensure fair pricing practices in local markets.
