GUWAHATI, June 1: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday condoled the death of singer Suman Kalyanpur and said her songs were a cherished part of the golden era of Indian music.
Kalyanpur died in Mumbai on Sunday due to old age-related issues. She was 89.
“‘Na tum hamein jaano, na hum tumhe jaane’, yet generations came to know and love Suman Kalyanpur ji through her timeless melodies,” Sarma said in a post on X.
‘‘I’m deeply saddened by her passing. Her songs were a cherished part of the golden era of Indian music, bringing joy and nostalgia to millions,’’ he said.
Though an era comes to a close, her melodies will continue to live on, the CM added.
