National seminar on Indo–Myanmar border issues to be held in Guwahati

Two-day seminar in Guwahati to deliberate on challenges and policy approaches concerning the Indo–Myanmar border region.

GUWAHATI, June 15: A two-day national seminar on “Indo–Myanmar Border Issues and the Way Forward” will be held at the North Eastern Regional Centre of the National Institute of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj (NIRDPR) at Khanapara on June 17 and 18.

The seminar is being jointly organised by Seemanta Chetana Mancha Purvottar and the Assam Rifles, in collaboration with the North Eastern Regional Centre of NIRDPR, Dibrugarh University, the University Development Council of Manipur University and Rajiv Gandhi University, Arunachal Pradesh.

According to the organisers, the seminar will bring together academicians, researchers, policymakers and security experts to deliberate on various issues concerning the Indo–Myanmar border and explore possible policy measures for the region.

The inaugural session is expected to be attended by Pradeep Joshi, All India Co-Prachar Pramukh of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh; former General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Eastern Command of the Indian Army, Rana Pratap Kalita; and Nagaland Education and Tourism Minister Temjen Imna Along, among other dignitaries.

The valedictory session will be attended by Muralidhar Bhinda, All India Convener of Seema Jagaran Manch, and Director General of Assam Rifles, Lt Gen Vikas Lakhera, along with other distinguished guests.

During the two-day programme, researchers and university faculty members will present papers in technical sessions centred on the theme of the seminar.

The event will also feature panel discussions and deliberative sessions on various aspects of border management, security, development and regional cooperation. The organisers have appealed for public support and participation to ensure the success of the seminar and its discussions on issues affecting communities living along the Indo–Myanmar border.
