GUWAHATI, June 17: A two-day national seminar on “Indo–Myanmar Frontier Issues and the Way Forward” commenced on Wednesday at the National Institute of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj (NIRDPR), Khanapara, bringing together policymakers, security experts, academicians and researchers from across the country.
The seminar is being jointly organised by Seemanta Chetana Manch Purvottar and the Assam Rifles on June 17 and 18 in collaboration with the North Eastern Regional Centre of NIRDPR, Dibrugarh University, the University Development Council of Manipur University and Rajiv Gandhi University, Arunachal Pradesh.
The inaugural session began with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp and was attended by several distinguished personalities, including RSS Akhil Bharatiya Sah Prachar Pramukh Pradeep Joshi, RSS Akhil Bharatiya Karyakarini member Ullas Kulkarni, former General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Eastern Command Lt Gen Rana Pratap Kalita, Nagaland Education and Tourism Minister Temjen Imna Along, Seemanta Chetana Manch Purvottar president Pratima Neog, Assam Rifles Director General Lt Gen Vikas Lakhera, National Institute of Border Studies chairman Pradeep Kumar, IPS, and RSS Kshetra Pracharak Basishtha Bujarbaruah.
The first day of the seminar witnessed participation from professors, researchers, scholars and representatives of various educational institutions and social organisations from different parts of the country.
Panel discussions and presentations of research papers formed the key components of the inaugural day’s proceedings, focusing on various issues related to the India–Myanmar border region, including security, development, border management, connectivity and socio-cultural linkages.
Organisers said the seminar aims to facilitate informed discussions on emerging challenges and opportunities along the Indo–Myanmar frontier and explore policy recommendations for sustainable development and regional cooperation. The day’s proceedings concluded with the National Anthem, while Prof. Sunil Prasad delivered the vote of thanks.
