HT CorrespondentJORHAT, Sept 7: The post-graduate classes in the department of Physics of Jagannath Barooah College (Autonomous), Jorhat, was formally inaugurated on Tuesday by eminent scientist and Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize winner (1995) Professor Bhupendra Nath Goswami, who is presently the SERB (Science and Engineering Research Board) Distinguished Fellow of the department of Physics, Cotton University.
A faculty member of the Physics department of Jagannath Barooah College informed that opening of PG classes has been an outcome of long-standing efforts of the department, which was established in 1949.
Professor Goswami, a former director of Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology, Pune, later delivered the 5th lecture of the distinguished lecture series on the topic ‘Clouds: Building Blocks of Tropical Weather and Climate’ at the conference room number 1 of the college, the faculty member stated.

Dr Jibon Saikia, head of department of Physics, explained in detail the origin, continuation and necessity of the PG course in Physics and the distinguished lecture series.
Dr Ankur Gogoi coordinated the event and offered the vote of thanks, the faculty member concluded.
