Training workshop on malaria & vector borne diseases held in Guwahati

GUWAHATI, Sept 18: National Center for Vector Borne Diseases Control (NCVBDC), under director general of Health Services, ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoH&FW), Government of India organised a five-day training workshop with the cooperation of NVBDCP Assam on ‘Malaria and other Vector Borne Diseases Entomology’ at Guwahati from September 12 to 16, 2022.
Entomologists from Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, Tripura, Himachal Pradesh and West Bengal participated in the workshop.
The objective of the training was to strengthen the capacities of entomologists to achieve the elimination goal of malaria, filarial, Kala-azar. Roles of entomologists are very important to sustain the elimination achievements of these VBDs. Capacity building of entomologists is also very important to detect the early warning signals of the viral diseases like Dengue, Japanese Encephalitis, Chikungunya to contain the outbreaks and to reduce the morbidity and mortality associated with these diseases.
NCVBDC is organising these trainings in public private partnership mode with Godrej Consumer Products Limited as corporate social responsibility and with partnership of Centre for Health Research Innovation. Prior to this, two trainings were already organised in Delhi for 50 entomologists. The basic approach to eliminate or reduce the risk of Vector Borne Diseases (VBDs) transmission, entomological monitoring with vector control are the key components of the National Strategies under NCVBDC.
Subject experts from World Health Organizations (WHO), National Center for Disease Control (NCDC), ICMR, and NCVBDC have deliberated on the theory and practical aspects of vector borne diseases during this five-day training. Senior regional director, H&FW, Shillong and joint director cum State programme officer (VBD), Assam participated in the inaugural session.
