Minister Nandita Gorlosa launches Amrit Sarovar scheme in Dima Hasao

HAFLONG, Sept 18: Assam Minister for Power, Mines & Minerals, Co-operation, etc., Nandita Gorlosa launched mission Amrit Sarovar scheme in three places under Dima Hasao district on Saturday. The launching programme was organised coinciding with the birthday of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and also as a part of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav.
The scheme was launched in three locations viz., Daolapur in Manderdisa, Dima Hading in Hatikali and New Simplangdisa in Maibang East on Saturday afternoon.
Talking to the media persons and the people present during the occasion, minister Gorlosa informed that Amrit Sarovar is a very dear project of the Prime Minister with an objective of creating a multipurpose water body which will be used for irrigation, water supply, pisciculture, and commercial plantation.
As a part of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav to mark 75 years of Indian Independence, 75 numbers of ponds will be created in each district of Assam likewise in Dima Hasao, a similar number of ponds will be dug. Amrit Sarovars will play an important role in increasing the availability of water, both on surface and underground. It will provide a source of income to farmers through pisciculture and commercial plantation.
Executive members Golonjo Thaosen, Bijit Langthasa, deputy chairman of NCHAC Bimol Hojai, Dima Hasao deputy commissioner Nazreen Ahmed, NCHAC principal secretary Thai Tsho Daulagupu, project director of Panchayat and Rural Development Megonjoy Thaosen were also present during the launching programme. Gaonburas of the villages, public, local people and media persons were also present.
On interaction with the villagers about the scheme, they expressed satisfaction while hoping that the project will definitely help the villagers in preserving water bodies
