BISWANATH CHARIALI, Oct 6: To commemorate the 68th Wildlife Week, a bike rally was organised by the Biswanath Wildlife Division and East Sonitpur Forest Division in collaboration with the Upatyaka and Wild Heart Foundation, local environment friendly NGOs on Thursday. The bike rally started from the divisional office of Biswanath Wildlife proceeded through Kumolia, Koroiani, Sootea and ended at Biswanath covering approximately 40 km of distance. Street meetings were organised at various places including Kumolia, Katarati, Koroiani, Ghiladharimukh to make people aware about wildlife protection and training was imparted on how to safeguard the wild creatures which enters the adjoining areas of KNP (Kaziranga National Park) in search for food and shelter by the officials.
The bike rally was attended by Kanak Boishya, DFO Biswanath Wildlife Division, Arun Business, DFO, East Sonitpur Forest Division, Soidur Rahman, managing director of Upatyaka, Ranjit Kakaty, president of Biswanath district committee of Wild Heart Foundation beside officials from the forest department and local environment friendly people. It is to be mentioned here that the wildlife week has been observed around the world between October 2 to 8 every year. The theme of this year’s wildlife week is ‘Recovering Key Species for Ecosystem Restoration’.
