Sivasagar police rescue 32 cattle heads, arrests 7

SIVASAGAR, Oct 8: Sivasagar Police, in a drive against illegal cattle traders, rescued 32 cattle heads and arrested seven illegal cattle traders from Baniabari Chariali on NH 37 on Thursday night. The arrested youths are Safikur Rahman (25), Mukibur Rahman (30), and Aftab Ali (23) of Desang-ghat, Imdad Ahmed (36), and Bubut Ali (22) of Ririya; Saiful Islam (26) of Nagaon and Sanjay Bora (32) of Namti Borsala.
The police also seized Bolero pickup vans no, AS-04 CC 3254; AS04 C 3040; AS04-BC 6473, and AS04 BC 7030. Further investigation is on. It is a matter of concern for all that despite vigorous drives against illegal cattle traders all over the state, it is still continuing clandestinely in Sivasagar district.
Following a phone call from Menaka Gandhi, the chief of People for Animals, Sivasagar activists Jonali Buragohain, Ankita Ili, Dermir Patiri, Raj Mili and Nandita Lachan visited Sivasagar police station on Friday to take stock of the seized animals’ health and wellbeing.
