Jorhat unit of Mahapurusha Srimanta Sankaradeva Viswavidyalaya opened

JORHAT, Oct 11: The Jorhat unit of Mahapurusha Srimanta Sankaradeva Viswavidyalaya (MSSV) was opened at Tarajan Gayan Gaon here on Tuesday.
This is the third unit of the university to be opened after the Guwahati unit and Dhubri unit. Two more units will be opened in Goalpara and Dibrugarh soon.
The chief guest in the inaugural ceremony, Assam Agricultural University vice chancellor, Dr Bidyut Chandan Deka in his address stated that education to the students should be imparted in a holistic manner.
Dr Deka also praised Siva Prasad Baruah for donating the building to the university for opening its unit here.
Assam Women’s University vice chancellor, Dr Ajanta Borgohain Rajkonwar addressing the function as guest of honour praised the MSSV for opening two departments in the Jorhat unit. She spoke about the scope of performing arts as a career apart from a performer.
She also added that naturopathy practitioners are very few in Assam. Through this university, there will be more practitioners in this field.
Earlier, the registrar of MSSV, Prof Mrinal Kumar Bora said that he is grateful to CM Himanta Biswa Sarma led government for releasing 75 percent of the funds for salary.
He mentioned the history of MSSV and its future plans.
Delivering the welcome address, MSSV vice chancellor, Dr Mridul Hazarika said, “The university was an outcome of sacrifices, contribution and dedication of all members of Srimanta Sankaradeva Sangha.”
He also said that the university would soon become self-sufficient with the introduction of new subjects.
Chancellor of the university and podadhikar of Srimanta Sankaradeva Sangha, Kamala Kanta Gogoi bestowed blessings for the betterment of the university.
Babul Bora, Finance & Planning director-cum-chief coordinator of the university who is also pradhan sampadak of Srimanta Sankaradeva Sangha blessed all the members of the university in his address.
He also acknowledged the contributions of the government towards MSSV and extended his gratitude to CM Himanta Biswa Sarma for his contribution.
Attending the inaugural ceremony, the founder registrar of MSSV who was the former dean of Assam Agricultural University, Prof Ratul Chandra Bora announced that he would donate 2 kathas of land and an Assam style house owned by him in Jorhat to the university.
