TEZPUR, Oct 14: A three-day long life-skill training programme on ‘Self Esteem and Body Confidence’ was held at Balipara Higher Secondary School at Sonitpur district. The training concluded on Thursday.
The training programme was specially organised for the teachers, BRP and CRCCs of nearly 100 schools of the district by DIET – Sonitpur in collaboration with SCERT – Assam, Samagra Siksha and UNICEF, Assam. It was attended by Pranita Medhi, Anamika Gogoi, Pinku Sarma, Ananda Mandal, Mohan Acharjya as resource persons.
On October 11, after registration, the programme started with guru bandana by resource person, Pranita Medhi which was followed by the opening ceremony in presence of district coordinator, lecturer, Biswanath Chariali DIET, Dr. Raj Kiran Doley; principal, Balipara Higher Secondary School, Pranab Medhi; BEEO, Balipara Education Block, Manish Thakur; DPO, Alternative School, Sonitpur, Manoj Gohain among others.
In his address, urging the trainees, BEEO, Balipara Education Block, Manish Thakur said that the training would be successful when the life skill techniques learned in the training would properly be implemented by the teachers in the classroom.
The lecture was followed by an ice-breaking event by Dr. Raj Kiran Doley, wherein he talked about the benefit of the training while DPO Manoj Gohain taught some tricks to the teachers on how to break monotony among the students. However, among other serious issues prevalent in the society and the students, gender stereotyping, socialisation, challenging and addressing, understanding and addressing harmful body talks, etc., were specifically discussed based on six comic books titled ‘Adhafull’ which was developed and created by BBC Media Action.
The trainees were divided into five groups who took part in activities like reading and mock practice on comic books, demonstration on key messages like advertising, role play, dance songs, poem, etc.
At the end, a valedictory function was held wherein the trainees were awarded with the participation certificate.
Meanwhile, sharing their feedback on the programme, few trainees insisted the concerned authorities make the comic books error free and to rectify some other faults to make such training more effective.
Earlier, taking part as special guest, artist Mahendra Hazarika urged the trainees to be sensitive in dealing with their students regarding life-skill-like matters that helps them shape their life in a proper way. He also mesmerised the trainees with the performance of a few of his popular songs. The trainees also left no stone unturned to make the event lively through their cultural performance.
