GUWAHATI, Nov 2: A conference on diabetes was held in Taj Vivanta, Guwahati on October 30. The conference was organised by Counting Sugar in partnership with Association of Clinical Endocrinology (ACE) and Diabetes India.
The conference stood unique from all other diabetes conferences. The sessions were interactive with an expert panel. An IPL diabetes session was designed where doctors were divided into teams. The doctors in the team presented questions to the team of other doctors on their presentation which resulted in clarity of the concepts.
In most of the sessions, real case studies were discussed in panels which made the sessions interesting and challenging. The houseful audience went home with practical pearls which will make a change in diabetes management in the north-east. The conference was a springboard for younger doctors to showcase their talent and knowledge.
The basics of how a sugar reading can go wrong were the opening gambit of the meet, followed by ways to fight the twin challenges of managing sugar in pregnancy was discussed in the sessions. The nuts and bolts of cutting-edge new diabetes medicines were discussed. Ways to deal with the crisis and boiling points of diabetic emergencies were discussed by experts across hospitals of Guwahati. Expert kidney doctors taught ways to approach abnormal kidney tests and top liver doctors discussed what not to prescribe in fatty liver conditions.
Dr Banshi Saboo from Ahmedabad gave an insight into obesity and how people can fight this global war.
Dr Mithun Bhartia, the organising secretary was the man behind the idea of the diabetes conference.
