IMPHAL, Nov 3 (NNN): At least six members of the All Manipur Tribal Development and Grievances Forum (AMTDGF), the body behind threatening to impose economic blockade on national highways in Manipur were detained, an official said on Thursday.
Demanding release of wages under MGNREGA scheme, AMTDGF announced an indefinite economic blockade on two vital national highways (NH-2 and NH-37), the life lines of Manipur which would be commenced from Thursday.
The official, however, did not disclose the details of the apprehended members.
Confirming the detention of the six members, additional director general of police (ADGP) of Manipur, L Kailun told reporters that imposing economic blockade is anti-national and a violation of people’s rights.
He assured that in case the economic blockade is imposed, the State Police will make all the necessary arrangements for the smooth flow of the vehicles ferrying commodities.
The police will make security arrangements for the vehicles plying along the national highways, he added.
