Awareness programme on rice procurement held at Biswanath

BISHWANATH CHARIALI, Nov 19: An awareness meeting was held at the office of Gohpur sub-division agriculture officer in the presence of deputy commissioner of Biswanath, Munindra Nath Nagatey as part of the paddy procurement campaign under Food and Civil Supplies department and Food Corporation of India on Saturday.
The meeting was attended by district agriculture officer Deepak Barhoi, sub-divisional agriculture officer Dibyajyoti Phukan, senior agriculture development officer Pradeep Talukdar, Gohpur agriculture development officer Raktim Saikia and other officers and employees of the agriculture department.
Addressing the gathering, the deputy commissioner urged the farmers to register their names immediately to get the benefits of the project. He further explained that this is a golden opportunity to double their income through the sale of paddy.
The district agriculture officer in his short speech covered all aspects of the paddy procurement process and said, “The paddy to be sold must be clean, dry, ripe, bright, uniform in colour, uniform in size, defect free, insect free, odour free, soil and sand free and paddy will be purchased only after assessing these quality standards.”
In addition, an awareness meeting was held at Sonapur Gaon Panchayat under the same programme and farmers were registered for paddy purchase at the camp.
