SHILLONG, Nov 23: Meghalaya chief minister Conrad Sangma has said the governments of Meghalaya and Assam have agreed to request the Centre for a probe by central agencies, either NIA or CBI, into the Mukroh firing incident, which killed 5 civilians of Meghalaya and one forest guard from Assam.

Sangma said this while interacting with protesting pressure groups of Meghalaya during his visit to Mukroh village on Wednesday.
Sangma-led cabinet delegation also met with the bereaved family members of the victims of the Mukroh firing incident.
During his visit to the village, the chief minister stopped to interact with protesting pressure groups and assured them that the government will ensure justice for the victims.
He told the agitating pressure groups that the government of Assam is cooperating fully with Meghalaya. He also told them that the concerned officials including OCs and forest officials have been suspended and SP of West Karbi Anglong has been transferred out from the district.
He also informed that a state cabinet delegation will call on Union home minister Amit Shah on November 24 at Delhi, which will also follow up with a meeting with Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
On the other hand, no untoward incident was reported from any part of Shillong save one. Some miscreants unsuccessfully tried to set ablaze a tourist vehicle on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, several pressure groups on Wednesday staged a black flag protest in various parts of Meghalaya including Khasi hills, Ri Bhoi districts against Tuesday’s firing incident at Mukroh village.
The frontal pressure groups namely KSU, FKJGP, RBYF and HNYF, organised black flag protests.
Restriction of public vehicles: Meanwhile, following the Mukroh incident, restriction on plying of the commercial and private vehicles was made strict in the border of Meghalaya and Assam.
On Wednesday, commercial vehicles of Meghalaya were banned from entering Assam in Jorabat, which forced the drivers to disembark the passengers mid-way.
They also said that, due to the restriction of entering Assam and Meghalaya, they will be compelled to hike the taxi fare which will surely affect the travellers.
