Statue of Gisiya Wagurdao Jidungsa unveiled at Dima Hasao

HAFLONG, Nov 30: The statue of Gisiya Wagurdao Jidungsa, the first Dimasa chief priest, was unveiled by Debolal Gorlosa, chief executive member of North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council (NCHAC) at Basabari, near Maibang town on Tuesday.
CEM Debolal initiated the installation of the first chief priest among the Dimasas which was unveiled ceremoniously in presence of any dignitaries and public from different parts of the district to prioritise the traditional culture and heritage of the indigenous tribe of the people living in the district of Dima Hasao.
The statue was unveiled in presence of NCHAC chairperson Ranu Langthasa and executive members Nipolal Hojai, Golonjoy Thaosen, Ratan Jarambusa, Devojit Bathari, Projith Hojai and Members of Autonomous Council (MAC). CEM’s wife Kanika Hojai Gorlosa was also present during the occasion.
CEM Debolal during his speech expressed his satisfaction about how fortunate he is to be a part of the pious step which will further enhance in establishing the richness of the history and tradition of the ethnic tribe of Dimasa.
Each of the priests was gifted with a portrait of the first chief priest Wagurdao Jidungsa, Sheng – the Dimasa traditional sword, bela – the brass bowl, aara – the brass tumbler and rithar – holy piece of cloth used by Dimasa priests.
Gaonburas and maujadars from the nearby villages also were present during the programme. The programme also saw felicitation of artist Lakheswar Bodo and his artists team
