Leopard tranquilised in RFRI campus, sent to CWRC

JORHAT, Dec 27: The leopard which created havoc after entering the Rain Forest Research Institute at Sotai on Monday morning resulting in injury of 10 persons, including three Forest department personnel, was tranquilised on Tuesday morning, providing a sense of relief to the residents of the campus and Forest staff.
Range officer of Jorhat Forest Range Iqbal Ahmed said that after the wild cat was tranquilised by a veterinary team from Tinsukia accompanied by Forest staff after 24 hours of continuous chase to track the animal which was running and attacking both Forest personnel and campus residents and also jumping at vehicles.
The official said that the leopard was sent to the Centre for Wildlife Rescue and Conservation (CWRC) near Kaziranga National Park soon after it was tranquilised at 9:15 am.
The range officer said that the three Forest personnel injured on Monday along with seven other people are undergoing treatment at JMCH.
A resident of the RFRI campus also stated the residents too were relieved that the leopard had been tranquilised and taken away as the people were terror struck by the big cat which had entered the premises of the staff quarters.
It may be mentioned that a leopard was caged at Samaguri in a tea garden on Saturday late night after a complaint by tea workers that the leopard was attacking their cattle and poultry.
