JORHAT, Jan 19:Â Police apprehended one Sirajul Hussain alias Rahul on Wednesday night on charges of making an extortion call in the name of ULFA (I) to a person of Kakojan under Teok police station in the district.

A police source stated that the person who received a call reportedly from Sirajul demanding money in the name of the outlawed outfit informed the police around 4 pm on Wednesday, and a trap was laid to nab him.
As the youth came to collect an extortion amount of Rs 1 lakh from the victim he was apprehended and arrested by a police team.
Sirajul was earlier involved in several cases of crimes and further investigation was on in this case, the source added.
Meanwhile, 11 stolen bicycles were recovered by police from different areas of the district and a person was arrested in this connection after Lichubari police outpost here carried out an investigation following the receipt of a complaint from a person on January 17 about a bicycle theft near the Assam Agricultural University campus.
The police source stated that a person lodged a complaint that his son’s bicycle was stolen when the boy had parked it in front of a shop to buy some items. During the investigation police apprehended Rajib Das of Kenduri Gohain Tekelagaon, Jorhat, and carried out a series of raids in various places and recovered 11 cycles.
