GUWAHATI, Feb 3: Jindal Stainless (JSL) partnered with Northeast Frontier Railways (NFR) to organise a series of half marathons in the north-eastern part of the country. The first-of-its-kind JSL NFR Northeast Half Marathon is aimed at promoting sports and catalysing development in the region. It will kick off from Guwahati on February 5, followed by Darjeeling, West Bengal on February 25, and Tawang, Arunachal Pradesh on March 12.
A joint initiative of Jindal Stainless and NFR, the marathon is supported by the Sports Authority of India (SAI) and the government of Assam. Chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma will flag the inaugural marathon in Guwahati. The 21.1 km long JSL NFR Northeast Half Marathon will begin at 5:30 am from the NFRSA Stadium in Guwahati, passing through Phani Sarma Park, Jalukbari PP, and Hajo Road before returning to the NFRSA Stadium.
Commenting on the association, managing director of Jindal Stainless, Abhyuday Jindal shared, “We are thrilled to partner with Northeast Frontier Railways (NFR) to bring the first-ever half marathon to the north-eastern region. With a focus on ‘Developing Northeast & Empowering Sports’, we believe this initiative will bring the community together and showcase the beauty and diversity of India’s north-eastern region. We are confident that this initiative will not only be a great opportunity for sportspersons but also highlight the region’s potential and contribute to the overall development of sports in the region.”
