GUWAHATI, April 23: Lions Club Guwahati Anmol on Saturday distributed 100 sewing machines, one to each of a hundred poor women hailing from different parts of the city, showing solidarity towards them by offering a helping hand and helping them to start a new journey of self-empowerment. The machines for distribution were supplied by ‘Triveni Foundation’, an NGO headed by Lion Vijay Agarwal and Lion Mandeep Maria.
The distribution ceremony held at Kalyani Bhawan in Ganeshguri was chaired by Lion Naveen Poddar, president of Lions Club Guwahati Anmol. Lion Jugal Kishore Pandey, chairperson, State Hindi Language Development Council attended the function as the chief guest. “It is high time to work for the upliftment of the underprivileged of the society.,” opined Pandey while delivering his speech to the gathering. “Organisations like Lions Club should come forward to cooperate with the government to serve the purpose,” he added. Lion Ajay Agarwala and Lioness Ananya Agarwala attended the function as special guests. Lion Vijay Agarwala and Lion Mandeep Maria of Triveni Foundation as well as Lioness Ritu Chowdhary, secretary, Lions Club Guwahati Anmol too graced the occasion.
