SIVASAGAR, May 17:
Most of the diagnostic labs in urban centres often flout the norms and conditions set by the health departments. The Sibsagar Diagnostic & Medical Research Centre in Sivasagar Doulmukh Chariali on Monday issued a diagnostic report to one Julekha Begum which was meant for another patient, Jonali Buragohain.
Later the family members of Julekha Begum came to the diagnostic centre and asked for an apology but the authority told them that it happens sometimes due to oversight and hence it is not an important issue. The people created a scene after the authority reportedly misbehaved with the public present there and demanded sealing of the centre as another centre in Station Chariali was closed down by the administration due to the negligence of the diagnostic centre authority. In yet another incident, the authority had to seal the Pragati Nursing Home and Research Centre due to the apparent negligence of the authority in which a young ward commissioner of the ruling BJP Upama Bora died. Another, regular complaint against the so-called diagnostic centres is that the reports of the same patient carrying out diagnostic tests in different labs differ widely.
The public have demanded a thorough probe against these complaints and the department should carry out a check of the quality of the reagents used by various labs.
