DIPHU, April 28: All Party Hills Leaders Conference (APHLC) has criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit at Loringthepi in Karbi Anglong district in the Peace, Unity and Development Rally and termed it as a waste of money and manpower.
President of APHLC, JI Kathar briefing media in a press conference here at District Press Club of Karbi Anglong on Thursday, said, “The visit of the Prime Minister has depicted a grim picture. Chief Executive Member of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC), Tuliram Ronghang has got the chance to speak regarding Autonomous State in front of the Prime Minister, but he has not spoken. The Prime Minister has the political power to decide on Autonomous State, but sadly our CEM did not speak where he should have. He has missed the chance.”
Kathar also said granting of Autonomous State can be made by a resolution with a simple majority in Lok Sabha. The Prime Minister has not mentioned the Autonomous State nor the strengthening of the Sixth Schedule.
Kathar also said, “We have been demanding under Paragraph 2 Sub-Paragraph 7 of the Sixth Scheduled to the constitution of India, that laws should be made for the conduct of KAAC election and preparation of separate electoral rolls. But the KAAC is not doing it by making excuses that the Governor’s approval is needed.”
He further said, “Rs. 400 crores are said to be spent for the visit of the Prime Minister. But what we have received is nothing. The laying of foundation stones for Agriculture, Veterinary and degree colleges can be done without the coming of the Prime Minister. Instead, the money could have been spent on the construction of a road from Longnit to Jorlien in Singhason Kuki village or a road from Chowkihola to Borpung, where there is no communication. It is a waste of money by the government by organising such a rally.”
He also said by holding the rally in an open paddy field it has polluted the soil by strewing it with polythene bags and plastic. By filling up sand, gravel and earth to construct roads from NH-36 to the meeting venue it has destroyed the whole paddy field. The landowners cannot take up cultivation as it is filled with stones, plastics and bottles.
He blamed the government for using school students as schools and colleges have been closed for the Prime Minister’s visit.
