CM Himanta Biswa Sarma Inaugurates The Much Waited Four Lane Bypass

MANGALDAI, June 5: The foundation of seven central and state road projects worth over Rs 1,000 crore, including the NH 15 Mangaldai bypass, was digitally laid today in a public function held here at Mangaldai College Playground. The foundation of the Rs 535 crore four-lane highway project under MORTH, Govt of India, is laid by Nitin Gadkari, union minister for road transport and highways, virtually from New Delhi in the presence of Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

Speaking on the occasion, union minister Gadkari said that Assam is gaining speedy development under the leadership of chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. Giving a brief account of the developmental road projects that have been executed in Assam and the North East since 2014 under the directives of PM Modi, he stated that in the next few years his ministry has a plan to invest another 1.5 lakh crore for new road projects in the area. Much to the delight of the capacity crowd of over 10,000 in the meeting, union minister Gadkari announced preparation of the DPR for upgrading the 117 km two-lane stretch of NH 15 from Baihata Chariali to Mission Chariali via Darrang to four lane.

He also declared DPR preparation for the Rs 6,000 crore elevated road from Kaliabor to Numaligarh through Kaziranga National Park. Meanwhile, the union minister urged the Assam chief minister to develop industry for making ‘crush barriers’ with eco-friendly bamboos in place of irons for massive livelihood benefits for the locals, as the ministry has already taken up a pilot project in this regard from Worli to Baroda.

Earlier, chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma inaugurated a Rs 2 crore project at Dhalpur Shiv Temple and digitally inaugurated another four projects worth Rs 26.22 crore from Mangaldai College Playground. Moreover, he laid the foundation for six road projects worth nearly Rs 530 crore under the state government. In his speech, chief minister Sarma termed the day as a golden day for Darrang district in the context of its history of development.

He offered his thanks to union minister Gadkari for sanctioning the highway bypass project in Mangaldai and also gave full credit to Mangaldai MP Dilip Saikia for achieving this rare feat for the people of Darrang. Recalling the rich history of Darrang, Sarma promised to bring more development to Darrang by establishing a medical college and also connecting it directly with Guwahati city by constructing the Kuruwa and Narengi connecting bridges over the river Brahmaputra.

Sarma also highlighted a few individual beneficiary schemes for women SHG members, youths, and lower middle-class families. MP Dilip Saikia and all the four MLAs of the district were also present on the occasion; virtually from New Delhi, in the presence of Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
