DIBRUGARH, July 1: Assam chief minister and chief convenor of NEDA, Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday stated that the Congress party is shedding tears now that Manipur is gradually regaining stability.

During a press interaction in Dibrugarh, the Assam CM remarked, “The Congress is crying now that Manipur is limping back to normalcy. The situation in Manipur has been improving day by day, and within 10 days, further improvement can be witnessed, leading to complete restoration.”

Sarma continued, “When relative peace has been achieved, the Congress starts expressing concerns. They should have cried out when the situation in Manipur was volatile. At that time, they neither visited nor commented on Manipur. Now that Manipur is almost returning to normalcy, they are suddenly talking about the state. The situation in Manipur has considerably improved, and in a few days, normalcy will be restored.”

He further added, “The Manipur government and the Union Home Ministry have been silently working towards peace and normalcy in the state. We can now observe the level of violence in Manipur compared to a month ago. Discussions with stakeholders are ongoing to ensure peace is reinstated.”

Chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma further emphasised that with the collaboration of the state and central governments, Manipur’s situation would witness significant improvement within 7-10 days.

More than 100 lives have been lost in the ethnic clashes between the Meitei and Kuki communities in Manipur since the initial clashes began on May 3. Sarma affirmed that considerable progress has been made in the neighboring state over the past month.

“The Manipur government and the Union Home Ministry are working silently. The previous level of violence and the current situation can be clearly seen. I assure you that there has been a vast improvement,” Sarma stated, while taking a swipe at the Congress.
