ITANAGAR, July 25: The All Nyishi Youth Association, East Kameng District Unit (ANYA-EKDU), has called for a time-bound re-verification of land compensation distributed to beneficiaries under the Lada to Sarli stretch of the Frontier Highway project.

In an official statement issued during a press briefing at the Arunachal Press Club (APC) on Friday, the association alleged serious irregularities and a lack of transparency in the compensation process and warned of possible legal and democratic agitation if corrective steps are not taken within a fortnight.

ANYA-EKDU president Ramesh Taku, addressing the media, claimed that the land compensation awarded for the Lada–Sarli highway was marred by discrepancies.

“There have been significant lapses in the disbursement of compensation. During our field visits, several genuine landowners reported receiving disproportionately lower compensation than others, despite owning larger land parcels,” Taku stated.

The association has demanded an immediate halt to the ongoing compensation process until a proper and transparent re-verification is completed.

They stressed the importance of ensuring that all project-affected families receive fair and equal compensation as per their entitlement under the government’s guidelines.

Alleging administrative failure, the association questioned the credibility of the District Land Revenue and Settlement Officer (DLRSO) and other concerned officials involved in the compensation process.

They urged the state government to refrain from issuing any transfer orders related to the Deputy Commissioner and the DLRSO during the course of the re-verification, stating that continuity in administrative oversight is critical to ensuring transparency and accountability.

The association also expressed dissatisfaction with the lack of response to the Right to Information (RTI) queries filed by them.

According to ANYA-EKDU, the concerned authorities have failed to provide crucial documents pertaining to the land acquisition award, list of entitled beneficiaries, and the basis of the compensation distribution.

This, they alleged, further points to attempts to withhold or manipulate information.

“We are giving the administration a 14-day ultimatum to complete the re-verification of the compensation process. Failure to do so will compel us to initiate both legal proceedings and a democratic movement to safeguard the rights of the affected people,” Taku warned.

The Frontier Highway project, aimed at bolstering connectivity along Arunachal Pradesh’s border regions, has been seen as a transformative infrastructure initiative.

However, compensation-related disputes have emerged as a critical issue in multiple stretches, with local stakeholders demanding fairness and transparency to avoid socio-economic unrest.
