KOMSING, Oct 23: The Donyi Sanggo Culture Preservation Society (DSCPS), in collaboration with the village committees of Komsing, successfully organised the Namkam Hornbill Trek Expedition 2025 from October 20 to 23, with the aim of promoting eco-tourism and cultural awareness in the pristine Namkam Hills under Komsing village in Siang district of Arunachal Pradesh.

The expedition sought to highlight the region’s breathtaking landscapes, traditional trails, rich biodiversity, and vibrant cultural heritage.

Participants explored the untouched natural beauty of Namkam — home to the majestic Hornbill and the rare white-spotted squirrel — while interacting with the local community to better understand its traditions and ecological wisdom.

Led by Tapun Taki, managing director of Namkam Hornbill Trek, the four-day adventure drew participation from local youths, nature enthusiasts, and trekkers from across the region.

Taki was joined by his dedicated team comprising Nekut Taloh, Tayam Tamuk, Nalo Taki, Tanyo Taki, Tajok Taki, Kalen Taki, and Kamin Gao, a reporter from Arunachal Express.

The route of the expedition covered several stunning natural and cultural landmarks, including Lingang Tuksing (White Spotted Stone), Esar Arung (Wind Hole), Raklong View Point, Namkam Hilltop, Ene Hieng (Natural Lake), Yumhing Yorbe (Hornbill Nest), Yumging Yorbe, Yumbung Hoyit (Animal Water Drinking Point), Lebung Stream, Hebung Lokne (Biggest Hollok Tree), Pangi Village, Dr. Gregorson Murder Spot (Historic Site), Yembung-Siang Confluence, and the War Memorial at Kekar Moniying.

Each of these sites reflects the ecological richness, scenic diversity, and deep historical and cultural roots of the Siang region.

Participants were especially fascinated by the lush forest canopies, crystal-clear streams, and the harmonious coexistence of wildlife and traditional communities.

Beyond adventure, the expedition served as a powerful platform to spread awareness on forest conservation, wildlife protection, and sustainable tourism practices.

Speaking at the concluding session, Tapun Taki expressed satisfaction over the success of the expedition and reaffirmed the commitment of DSCPS and partner organisations to continue exploring and preserving the natural and cultural wealth of Namkam.

“Our goal is to make the Namkam Hornbill Trek a signature eco-tourism event that places Siang district on the global tourism map while preserving its ecological and cultural integrity,” he said.

The event concluded with a collective pledge to make the Namkam Hornbill Trek Expedition an annual eco-tourism and cultural heritage event, aimed at celebrating the beauty of Siang while promoting environmental consciousness and sustainable livelihoods.
