ITANAGAR, June 27: The two-day orientation programme for the Members of the 8th Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly concluded on a high note on Friday with a valedictory session held at the Nokmey Namati Hall.
The event marked the culmination of an initiative aimed at enhancing the legislative competence and institutional understanding of the newly elected lawmakers.
According to an official statement, the programme featured a series of sessions led by experts from the Parliamentary Research & Training Institute for Democracies (PRIDE), under the Lok Sabha Secretariat, and was hailed as a step forward in strengthening democratic governance in the state.
Delivering the valedictory remarks, Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Pasang Dorjee Sona underscored the importance of continuous learning in public service.
He said that the programme provided an essential platform for lawmakers to better understand the responsibilities of their role and the tools available to them in shaping policy and legislation. Emphasising the need for informed decision-making and ethical conduct in public life, Sona called on the legislators to commit themselves to transparent and effective governance.
Speaker of the Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly Tesam Pongte, in his address, commended the enthusiastic participation of the Members and the depth of insight offered by the resource persons from PRIDE.
He described the orientation as a valuable opportunity for legislators to strengthen their legislative roles and better serve their constituents.
Pongte encouraged the MLAs to carry forward the lessons learned and apply them to legislative proceedings in a manner that would enhance the quality and impact of the Assembly’s work.
Deputy Speaker Kardo Nyigyor delivered the vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to PRIDE for their support and to the organising team for their dedicated efforts in ensuring the smooth conduct of the programme.
He also acknowledged the commitment shown by the Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs), whose active engagement was key to the programme’s success.
In a noteworthy gesture of solidarity and commitment, deputy chief minister Chowna Mein attended the full duration of the two-day programme.
His presence, the statement noted, demonstrated his deep interest in capacity building and his commitment to the cause of legislative excellence.
As part of the valedictory session, the resource persons from PRIDE were felicitated for their guidance and contribution to the orientation.
All participating MLAs were presented with certificates of participation in recognition of their involvement and commitment to the learning process.
The programme concluded on a reflective and optimistic note, with a shared pledge among lawmakers to work toward a more informed, responsible, and people-oriented legislature.
