MARGHERITA, Feb 1: The 21st Adivasi Mahasabha concluded on Sunday at Dehing Sports Complex Samannay Khetra in Bargolai, Tinsukia, drawing over 2 lakh participants from Assam, other Northeastern states and across India.
The four-day celebration showcased Adivasi culture, heritage and unity through traditional dances, songs and displays of customs. Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren, the first Adivasi CM from outside the region to attend, paid tributes to iconic figures including Zubeen Garg, Birsa Munda and AASAA founder Justin Lakra.
Soren criticised the State and Union BJP governments, calling them “trader governments” and highlighted the Adivasi community’s central role in Assam’s economy, particularly in the tea industry, while urging action on land rights, education and political recognition. He pledged Jharkhand’s support for Adivasis in Assam if needed.
The session featured speeches from Rana Jyoti Neog, Rejan Hor, Deben Uraon and other leaders, emphasising unity, justice and dignity for the Adivasi community. The event concluded with vibrant cultural performances, rhythmic drumbeats and collective calls for empowerment and solidarity.
