SIVASAGAR, Oct 23: The 24th session of All Assam Higher Secondary Teachers’ and Employees Association concluded on Saturday. The programme was held at Sivasagar Yuvadal Auditorium and culminated following the election of a new body of office bearers with Krishnendu Roy as the president, Hemanta Bhunya, Samsul Hoque Pradhani, and Prabin Chowdhury as vice presidents, and Jiten Hazarika as the secretary.
Earlier, minister of Revenue and Disaster Management, Jogen Mohan addressed the open meeting and said that the state government has been upgrading the infrastructure and other physical issues of the schools, and now it is the turn of the teachers to produce quality human resources.
On the NPS, minister Jogen Mohan said that a lot of discussions are underway in this regard in the concerned circles and he hopes that something good will come out of the discussions.
Jorhat MP Topon Kumar Gogoi said that the politicians cannot create a conducive atmosphere for education, but the teachers can as they have the ability to convince society. He urged the teachers and parents to send their wards to government schools and avail the opportunities there.
Dr Dayananda Bharali was invited as the speaker. He said, “The NEP 2020 aims at making society a holistic, humane, and skill-based one.”
Dr Bhaben Mohan, social worker, inaugurated the open session which was presided over by Himadrijyoti Dutta.
Dr Rukma Gohain Baruah, chairman, AHSEC, in his speech quoted Dr Radhakrishnan and said, “If it is to be called education at all, it must be able to remove intellectual blindness as well as spiritual darkness.”
Kripal Bhuyan, secretary, the district unit of the AAHSTEA, read out the written speech sent by chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. The CM said that every student is immensely resourceful and the teachers’ role is to bring them out.
The new and retired teachers meet was inaugurated by Ghanakanta Gogoi while the biographical collection ‘Jiwan Sourobh’ was released by Dr Sabyasachi Mahanta, principal, Gargaon College, and Paul Baruah, DC Charaideo. The ‘Sikhya Barta’ was released by Jogesh Kishore Phukan.
On Friday, the association’s flag was hoisted by Himadrijyoti Dutta while Naren Rajkhowa, Prasanta Kalita, and Dhrubajyoti Handique offered ‘tarpan’.
Kamaljyoti Gogoi, IS Sivasagar and president of the reception committee released the souvenir ‘Kalanchu’, and Mayur Borgohain, working president of the reception committee inaugurated the stage.
The seminar on ‘NCF in HS state’ was inaugurated by Dr Jyoti Prasad Saikia, VC, BSS University, Golaghat.
Dr Saumerjyoti Mahanta, principal of Sibsagar Commerce College, spoke on ‘NEP 2020 and the teachers’ role’.
The delegates’ meeting was inaugurated by Manoj Kumar Borthakur, former district president.
