Dongkamukam, Oct 15: The 2nd Bhojpuri Student Freshers’ Meet for the year 2023 took place on Sunday at the Kheroni Auditorium hall, Kheroni, West Karbi Anglong. This event was organised by the Bhojpuri Jan Jagran Abhiyan (BJJA) Assam.
Dr Santosh Patel, the national president of Bhojpuri Jan Jagaran Abhiyan, traveled from New Delhi to attend the program as the chief guest. In his speech, he expressed pride in the global presence of the Bhojpuri-speaking community.
He highlighted that Bhojpuri-speaking individuals have achieved significant positions worldwide, such as a Prime Minister in Mauritius, a President in Fiji, and even an international cricket player in the Caribbean. However, despite these accomplishments, the language has yet to receive constitutional recognition, which he attributed to government negligence for several decades.
Dr Patel emphasised the importance of continued efforts to have the Bhojpuri language officially recognised, calling for cooperation from students, youth, and all members of the community. He encouraged the current generation not to be hesitant about speaking their mother tongue.
Dr Puskar Kumar, the general secretary of BJJA, stressed that Bhojpuri is an ancient language, and despite holding protests at Jantar Mantar 19 times, the fight for recognition continues. Dharmendra Chouhan added that there are over 25 crore Bhojpuri speakers in India.
The Bhojpuri Jan Jagaran Abhiyan is the leading organisation advocating for the recognition of the Bhojpuri language and its inclusion in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution of India.
The meeting was attended by Dr Puspha Yadav, BJJA Assam State member, Pankaj Chauhan, GS RNSS Assam State, and over a hundred students. Exceptional Bhojpuri students were honored by the guests, and a cultural program added a touch of celebration to the event.
