3 vegetable traders died, 4 injured in tragic road accident at Haflong

HAFLONG, March 8: A tragic road accident claimed the lives of 3 persons and left 4 others seriously injured late Saturday night in the Boro Haflong area under Haflong Police Station in Assam’s Dima Hasao district.

According to reports, the accident occurred at around 9:30 PM, when a Magic van bearing registration number AS08C-4409 lost control while passing through the main road at Boro Haflong. The vehicle reportedly veered off the road and plunged down onto the approach road leading to the New Haflong Railway Station before overturning.

The van was carrying seven passengers, including the driver. Three of them died on the spot due to the severe impact of the crash, while the remaining 4 sustained serious injuries.

Upon receiving information about the incident, Haflong Police rushed to the scene and carried out a rescue operation. The injured were immediately transported to Haflong Civil Hospital, where they are currently undergoing treatment.

Sources said that all the victims were residents of Langting in Dima Hasao district and were engaged in the vegetable trade. On Saturday, they had travelled from Langting to Haflong in the Magic van to sell vegetables at the weekly vegetable market held in the town. After completing their business, they were returning to Langting at night when the unfortunate accident took place.

The deceased have been identified as Bimala Dibragede, Lambu Narzari and the driver Manjay Gurung.

The injured persons have been identified as Animoy Chakma, Sulmita Bathari, Sumit Munda and Sunila Basumatary.

The incident has cast a pall of gloom over the Langting area, as the victims were well-known local vegetable traders who regularly travelled to Haflong to participate in the weekly market. Police have initiated further investigation into the cause of the accident.
