DIPHU, Oct 6: The 30th Zonal Karbi Youth Festival (Zonal KYF), a four day cultural extravaganza concluded in all the Karbi Cultural Society (KCS) zones in Karbi Anglong and West Karbi Anglong on Wednesday. The zonal festival was held in 27 KCS Zones and outside in Umrangso, NC Hills and Ri-Bhoi district in Meghalaya.
Chief executive member of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC), Tuliram Ronghang visited all the Zones where he announced that KAAC will contribute an amount of Rs 5 lakh to each of the KCS Zones organising the Zonal KYF.
On the concluding day, the CEM attended the Zonal KYF at Lang Santi Langso playground organised by Hidipi-Borjan KCS Zone. Announcing before the large gathering the CEM said, “The KAAC has made a budget allocation of Rs 1 crore for hosting KYF at Taralangso and for annual conference of Karbi Lammet Amei – Karbi literary body an amount of Rs 50 lakh has been allotted. For Zonal KYF there is no budget provision. The KAAC will include a budget allocation from next year of Rs 5 lakh for organising the Zonal KYF to each KCS Zone.”
He also urged all to unite irrespective of political affiliation for the cause of culture.
The Langfer KCS zone was organised by the Zonal KYF at Bakulia Sports Association playground. 15 KCS Units participated in the four day festival with various traditional and modern competitions being organised. Competitions on Nimso Kerung, Hacha Kekan, Chong chingnang, group song, solo, Nengpi Nengso Kachingki, duet, Bor-et, spinning of yarn and traditional sports Kengdongdang pen kekat were taken up.
Langfer Member of Autonomous Council (MAC) and executive member (EM), KAAC, Madhuram Lekthe took the responsibility of hosting the festival. On the concluding evening of Wednesday, the president, KCS and former EM, KAAC, Bidyasing Rongpi gave away the prizes and certificates to the best performing KCS Unit Hinchong Asanchom, Chek Artu, while the prizes and certificates for the second best Serdihun Musoso Asanchom, Tanteli Thepi KCS Unit was given away by Samili Kropi, wife of EM, Lekthe and third best KCS Unit was adjudged to Lorchoti Asanchom, Kongjuk Athoi. In the cultural evening local artists like Jiten Terang; Robina Kropi, Bijoy Lekthe, Budha Bey and Sumit Killing entertained the audience with their beautiful numbers.
KOILAMATI: The 30th Zonal KYF was also held at Deigrum which was organised by Nilip KCS Zone, where various cultural and modern competitions were organised. In adding more enthusiasm to the festival the Deputy Speaker of Assam Legislative Assembly, Dr Numal Momin and EM, KAAC, Surjyo Rongphar took active part. Altogether 17 KCS Units participated.
BOKAJAN: The 30th Zonal KYF was also held at Sangtilangso, Balijan, bordering Nagaland. During the four day cultural event various cultural competitions and Miss Borjan were held. The Miss Borjan was organised by Karbi Students Association, Bokajan District Committee. Serlika Rongpipi, Sot Recho, Bokajan. The winner of Miss Borjan was adjudged to Serlika Rongpipi, Sot Recho, Bokajan, while the first runners up was bagged by Mirlibon Engtipi, Upper Hidipi and second runners up was bagged by Romalin Phangchopi Rongchingri, Diphu.
The Best Personality award went to Sami Sharmila Das, Sukhanjan; Best Ramp Walk was taken by Runme Timungpi, Sangti Langso; Best Costume went to Mirdan Ronghangpi, Matipung, Diphu and Miss Photogenic went to Kaso Englengpi of Sing Kiling.
General secretary, KCS, Bidyasing Rongpi said despite rain playing a spoilsport, Zonal KYF in all the KCS Zones has ended well. He extended his appreciation to the KCS Zones, the reception committee of all Zonal KYF and the central observers from KCS Central Committee who have given their time and energy in making the Zonal KYF a grand success.
