JORHAT, Dec 24: A total of 348 unemployed youths from five districts of Assam were recruited by private companies at a job fair held at the Jorhat Engineering College (JEC) auditorium on Monday.
The mela, under the Deen Dayal Upadhyay Gramin Kaushal Yojana, was organised by the Assam State Rural Livelihood Mission.
The districts covered were Jorhat, Golaghat, Sivasagar, Majuli, and Charideo.
The job fair was inaugurated by Kamakhya Prasad Tasa, MP from Kaziranga Lok Sabha Constituency, and Bipul Kumar Das, chief executive officer of the Jorhat Zila Parishad. A total of 742 unemployed youths were interviewed by more than 35 private companies from Assam, the Northeast, and other parts of India, with 348 deemed eligible.
The selected candidates were officially handed their appointment letters at the fair. Some companies also conducted interviews virtually during the event.
The meeting was attended by state project manager Ankur Chowdhury, executive project manager Manav Jyoti Buragohain (MIS), and executive project Manager Dennis Neog.
Mariani MLA Rupjyoti Kurmi, principal of Jorhat Engineering College Dr Rupam Baruah, and project managers from the Assam State Rural Livelihood Mission for the five districts, including Dr Suraj Jyoti Gogoi (Jorhat) and R Buragohain (Golaghat), were present and distributed appointment letters to the selected candidates.
