GUWAHATI, April 25: The 48 Assam Naval unit NCC, NER organised a seminar under the aegis of Guwahati group on the occasion of World Earth Day on Tuesday. Notable figures such as the Padma Shri awardee Jadav Payeng (also known as the Forest Man of India), Brig RP Pandey, the deputy director general of north-east region, NCC, Col S Ramesh, officiating group commander and commanding officers of all NCC units in Guwahati were present to celebrate this special day.
The seminar was a culmination to the events that had been organised earlier such as quiz, debate and painting competitions, along with multiple cleanliness drives in the river banks of Brahmaputra and tree plantation drives in all the college premises of Guwahati. It was indeed a great effort by NCC, NER to bring awareness in such an initiative and make people aware about environmental conservation. Approximately 500 NCC cadets from 11 colleges of Guwahati attended this seminar.
The opening lecture was provided by renowned personality Mayur Borah who is well-known for his expertise on global warming. He enlightened the attendees about various ways through which one can reduce their carbon footprints and conserve the environment. He discussed how human activities have resulted in global warming and warned how this would adversely affect the planet if immediate steps are not taken to control it.
Jadav Payeng also shared his journey and experiences in the field of environmental development. He talked about his inspiring story of how he had started his environmental mission with just three saplings and now has over 800 trees in his area alone. He praised the efforts of NCC units in supervising and leading these campaigns throughout all seven sister states. His story truly inspired us all and reiterated the importance of being environmentally conscious.
The seminar was a great success and served its purpose in spreading awareness regarding environmental conservation. All attendees left with a new sense of appreciation for nature and a responsibility to protect it from further deterioration. The seminar has been an excellent way to educate people on the issue of the planet.
