574th birth anniversary of Srimanta Sankardev observed in Sonitpur

TEZPUR, Oct 6: The 574th birth anniversary of Srimanta Sankardev was celebrated across Sonitpur district at all namghars and sattras with religious fervour on Wednesday.
On the occasion, the villages in the district were filled with devotionally blended notes of borgeets, naam prasanga, recitation of kirtana, Guru Bhatima and Gunamala along with discussion on Srimanta Sankardev throughout the day.
In Tezpur, the Kamrupiya Sanatan Dharma Mandali observed the birth anniversary of Srimanta Sankardev with different programmes. Tezpur Anchalik Srimanta Sankardev Jonmotsav Samiti celebrated the birth anniversary of the builder of Assamese nation and culture Srimanta Sankardev with a two-days programme at Pakhiyajhar near Tezpur. As a part of the first day programme, a religious procession was officially inaugurated by additional deputy commissioner of Sonitpur Raj Barua, on Wednesday morning. The procession started from namghar in Pakhiyajhar which was led by Srimanta Sankardev Janmotsav Samiti president Jiten Borthakur, executive president Saponti Goswami, secretary Rabindra Bora and Celebration Committee president Ranjit Bora. After the ‘prabhat pheri’, the president of Tezpur Anchalik Srimanta Sankardev Janmotsav Samiti, Jiten Borthakur hoisted the flag. Along with different programmes, sattriya dance and Borgeet competition was also held at the venue.
Alongwith Milanpur Deka Chuburi Namghar near Tezpur, Sri Sri Nikamul Satra, Tezpur, Boralimara Satra at Parbatiya, Madhab Mandir Bohumukhi Prokolpo, Bisnu Nagar Naamghar, Usha Nagar Naamghar, Chitralekha Nagar Namghar, Barhoichuburi Silor Khuta Naamghar at Bamparbatiya, Balipukhuri Tiniali Naamghar, Gerua Namghar, Balikhuti Naamghar and Pithakhowa Bor Naamghar and all the namghars and sattras in the district observed the day with vivid programmes.
