95th Annual Srimanta Sankardeva Sangha conference to begin

TEZPUR Feb 1: The 95th Annual Conference of the Srimanta Sankardeva Sangha will be held from February 6 at Jyoti–Bishnu Kshetra in Jamugurihat, Sonitpur district, with thousands of devotees and participants from across Assam and northeastern states, including Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland and Meghalaya, as well as Delhi and Puri chapters.

Preparations have reached their final stage, with 35 subcommittees overseeing the arrangement of main pandal, naamghar, delegate camps, exhibition halls and cultural spaces. The three-day programme will feature morning prayers, naam prashanga, cleanliness drives, book fairs, exhibitions and cultural performances, including six Ankiya Naat presentations. Notable events include a special tribute to singer Zubeen Garg, a lecture by Dr Subratjayoti Neog of Tezpur University on Sankari literature and the launch of publications such as ‘Bhakti Bibhaban’, ‘Aidhatmya Ramayana’ and the multilingual souvenir ‘Bhakti Dhara’.

The conference will conclude with the unfurling of the Sangha flag, Bhagawat bhraman, a cultural procession and an open session attended by Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma, central minister Pabitra Margherita, BTR chief Hagrama Mohilary and other dignitaries. Organisers say contributions from over 3,400 households across 140 villages have helped ensure the event’s success, reflecting devotion, community spirit and the enduring legacy of Srimanta Sankardeva’s teachings.
