BISWANATH CHARIALI, July 10: A total of sixty meritorious students who passed the HSLC and HS examinations with flying colours were felicitated in a public meeting organised by the Sootea regional committee of AAGSU (All Assam Gorkha Students’ Union) with Ajay Karki, president of the regional committee in the chair. The meeting held at the conference hall of Siporiya HSS to the southern part of Sootea began with a devotional song. The meritorious students were felicitated with a citation, gamosa and a packet of books. In between the programme, two journalists from Sootea Hemanta Saikia & Uttam Nath; Yuvraj Baskota, Prakash Khanal and Sanjay Pandey were felicitated for their outstanding contribution towards society and social life at large. The public meeting was addressed by Lalit Subba, retired teacher; Dilip Gajurel, vice president of central committee of AAGSU; Hemanta Saikia journalist; Anjan Baskota, Sahitya Akademi awardee; Kamal Upadhyaya, teacher; Prakash Khanal, secretary of Biswanath AAGSU and Ishwar Timsina, social worker. The meeting was attended by Dr Manoj Chetry, Nomal Bhattarai, Ram Prasad Upadhyaya, Siba Thapa, Ganesh Chetry, Pranab Baskota, Ajit Dhakal besides others. All the proceedings of the meeting were carried out by Damodar Subedi and Prakash Khanal.
