‘Aikya’ Observes ‘Goru Bihu’, ‘Koni Juj’ On Sankranti

Premier socio-cultural organisation of Sivasagar ‘Aikya’ on the Sankranti day (April 14) observed the popular 27th All Assam ‘Koni Juj’ competition and the ‘Goru Bihu’ with traditional fervour at Muktinath Chariali. The Aikya flag was hoisted by its president Dhananjay Saikia while Manoj Kr Borthakur, adviser, spoke briefly on Bihu. Sivasagar DC Megha Nidhi Dahal and Dr Nani Gopal Mahanta, adviser on Education to the government of Assam, inaugurated the koni juj. The inaugural function was attended among others by Prasanta Pratim Kathkatia, adviser to the chief minister, Kanu Majinder Baruah, Sarat Hazarika Bibhuti, Bhushan Chetia, Biswa Baruah, Naren Gogoi, Pabitra Borthakur, Dr Utpal Dutta, Dr Saumerjyoti Mahanta, Raja Borthakur, Angur Khan, Navanit Hazarika and Nimisa Sandalya Baruah. Releasing the souvenir Dr Nani Gopal Mahanta said that Aikya had set an ideal example of assimilating diverse cultural trends through its unique Koni juj and other programmes. Aikya felicitated Bagmita Handique, Dhiren Hazarika, Pallov Gogoi, Bhavisya Changmai, Adrija Rani Chetia, and Malavika Gogoi. The cultural programme included songs from Geetanjoli Das, Nimaijan Hussori Dal, Mezangkori, Kareng Hussori Dal and Marowari Bihu Dal.
