ALOK observes 39th foundation day at Nagsankar

TEZPUR, Jan 1: The 39th foundation day of ALOK, a socio-cultural, literary and dramatic organisation of the greater Nagsankar area was observed at the historic Sri Sri Nagsankar Devalaya on Thursday with a day-long programme.

The programme began with the hoisting of the institutional flag by Padmeswar Saikia, president of ALOK, followed by smriti tarpan. To mark the occasion, a district-level drawing competition was organised at the Nagsankar temple premises, in which around 100 students from various educational institutions of the undivided Sonitpur district participated.

The open session and prize distribution ceremony were held at the conference hall of the temple with Padmeswar Saikia in the chair. Former president of the organisation, Putul Bora, delivered the welcome address. It was stated that the organisation has entered its 40th year of inception and has decided to observe the year as Padmarag Jayanti with a year-long programme.

The celebration was inaugurated by ZPC member Hitesh Baruah by lighting the ceremonial lamp. Anjan Baskota, recipient of the Yuva Lekhak Sanman 2025, graced the open session as a distinguished speaker. He traced the golden history of the organisation and appealed to all concerned to extend their cooperation to make the year-long celebration a success.

On the occasion, ALOK felicitated 24 Namghariyas of the greater Nagsankar area with gamosa, cheleng and citations. The organisation also felicitated noted social worker and local sound entrepreneur Tuwa Kanta Bora. Retired teacher Baneswar Bora attended the programme as a distinguished guest, among others.

The drawing competition was judged by Dulu Gogoi, Prakash Baruah and Deben Kataky. The competition was held in three categories. In category A (Class I to V), Riya Devi, Sristina Nath and Nandini Devi won first, second and third prizes respectively. In category B (Class VI to IX), Prekhya Pathak, Mriganki Hazarika and Smita Hazarika secured first, second and third prizes, while in category C (Class X onwards), Biplab Budagohain, Kandarpa Saikia and Lakhyajit Nath bagged first, second and third prizes. Riyanch Deuri won the jury’s special award.

Biman Saikia, secretary of the organisation, offered the vote of thanks, while Putul Bora, Palask Gayan and Krishna Bhuyan conducted the proceedings.

Notably, ALOK was founded on January 1, 1987 and has completed 39 years of its existence. The organisation has played a key role in the development of socio-cultural, literary and dramatic activities in the greater Nagsankar area.
