JORHAT, Sept 17: The state government has officially launched the Amrit Brikshya Andolan, a campaign aimed at planting one crore saplings, primarily consisting of commercial trees, across the state. The launch took place centrally at the Cinnamara Tea Estate in Jorhat district, where Rajya Sabha MP Kamakhya Prasad Tasa, district commissioner Pulak Mahanta, and other district administration and Forest department officials participated by planting saplings.
Speaking on the occasion, MP Kamakhya Prasad Tasa urged the public to ensure the success of chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s initiative to increase the state’s green cover and boost the economy. He emphasised the importance of taking proper care of the saplings to ensure they grow into healthy trees.
District commissioner Pulak Mahanta and Jorhat Zila Parishad president Ranjan Saikia also praised the chief minister’s efforts to enhance the environment, particularly in the face of multiple challenges.
In addition to the central launch event, Jorhat MLA Hitendra Nath Goswami participated in a sapling planting event at JMCH campus. This event was attended by JMCH authorities, doctors, staff, district administration, and Forest department officials.
Throughout the district, saplings were planted at various locations, including the compounds of civic bodies, Gaon Panchayats, police stations, educational institutes, Anganwadi Centers, hospitals, health centres, tea gardens, government offices, and individual residences. The Amrit Brikshya Andolan seeks to promote environmental sustainability and economic growth in the region.
