Anannya title conferred on Monica Saikia

SIVASAGAR, July 13: Former vice-principal of Sibsagar College and an untiring crusader of gender discrimination Monica Saikia was awarded the inaugural ‘Anannya Bota’ by Sibsagar Girls’ College Women Cell in a function in the college on Saturday. The meeting held on the occasion of the foundation day of the college was attended by Dr. Nahendra Padun, former principal secretary, Asom Sahitya Sabha, and a noted linguist who formally inaugurated the award. Dr. Rita Borkotoky, principal, Sibsagar Girls’ College, and Prof Utpola Gohain Chamua, vice principal, awarded the ‘Anannya Bota’ to Monica Saikia, consisting of citation, memento, Rs 10 thousand in cash, gamosa, and a japi. Dr. Nahendra Padun praised Monica Saikia for her continuous struggle to help the poor, helpless women who are victims of diverse social conflicts. The meeting was also addressed by Dr. Rantu Gohain, former vice-principal Kiran Baruah, Dr. Jimlee Bharali, Rashid Ali, and others. Abhijit Borpujari, librarian, Sivasagar Girls’ College, presented a documentary on the life and works of Monica Saikia.
