SIVASAGAR, Nov 8: Angoorlata Deka, chairperson, of State BJP Mahila Morcha, was accorded a warm welcome by the women activists of the party in the BJP district office on Tuesday morning.
Addressing the media, Deka expressed her opinions on a wide range of subjects in state politics. Deka said that as per the directions of the party higher-ups, she has been touring around the state to understand the problems of the women and to inspire the women activists of her party to devote their valuable time and resources in an organised way.
Angoorlata hinted that a new brides’ organisation (Na-buwari Xangathan) will be formed so that the newlyweds can also develop their skills and talents as most women lose their social touch after marriage and their talents get muffled once they take over the responsibility of their families.
On being asked if she would contest in MP elections, she said that it all depends on the party policymakers and that she will carry on the work the party entrusts on her. Commenting on the rape case in Darrang, Angoorlata said, “Who would believe that our educated youths after getting respected posts in public service would commit such heinous crimes?”
Referring to the uneven representation of women in all sectors, she said that her party wants women to compete in all walks of life.
About the exercise for opposition unity, Deka said that it is a familiar hullabaloo before every general election, she added that the people of Assam know what to choose and what to reject.
