Annual function of Chatia HSS held

BISWANATH CHARIALI, Dec 12: The 91st Annual Prize Distribution Day of Chatia Higher Secondary School was held on Monday with a day-long programme with Ranjan Kumar Bhagawati, a retired teacher of the school in the chair.
The day-long programme began with the illumination of the ceremonial lamp by Rajendra Kumar Sarma, principal of the educational institution followed by a ‘borgeet’ by Pubali Bordoloi.
Jadu Upadhyaya, chairman of the students’ union explained the objectives of the meeting. ‘Sopan’, the wall magazine of the school was inaugurated by Biswanath MLA Pramod Borthakur while Ranjan Kumar Bhagawati unveiled ‘Prabhati Abha’, a handwritten magazine of the oldest educational institutions of the greater Sootea area.
It is to be mentioned here that there is a dignified tradition of releasing handwritten magazines every year since 1932. This year too was no exception to this. The wall magazine and handwritten magazine were compiled under the supervision of Purabi Hazarika, subject teacher of the school.
Biswanath MLA cum president of School Management and Development Committee (SMDC) graced the event as guest of honour. Addressing the gathering MLA Borthakur highlighted some government schemes that have been launched for overall development of the educational scenario of the state. He also declared that Chatia HSS has been shortlisted for up-gradation as model school by the state government.
During his address, Biswanath MLA traced the glorious history of Chatia High School which was later upgraded as Chatia HSS and made a humble appeal to the teachers’ community to work for the academic development of the students’ fraternity.
Dr Sanjib Upadhyaya, head of the department of Zoology, THB College graced the occasion as an appointed speaker and highlighted the NEP 2020 (New Education Policy) and asked the students to be studious and vigil about the happenings in the global scenario. The annual function was attended by Atul Duwora, Minati Barman, Abani Handique, journalist Anjan Baskota, Uttam Nath, secretary of Sootea Press Club beside other dignitaries.
All the proceedings of the programme were conducted by Diganta Bhuyan. A series of cultural events were performed by students. Various memorial awards and prizes were distributed at the end of the programme. Kiran Devi, vice principal of the school offered the vote of thanks.
