Guwahati, 16 Oct: Assam has been ranked among the top three States in Category B in the newly released State Mining Readiness Index (SMRI) by the Ministry of Mines. The index, part of the Union Budget 2025-26 announcements, aims to assess and encourage States to implement reforms and improve performance in the mining sector.
The SMRI evaluates States on parameters such as auction performance, early mine operationalisation, thrust on exploration, and adoption of sustainable mining practices for non-coal minerals. Assam’s high ranking reflects its progress in streamlining mining operations and promoting responsible mineral resource management.
By securing a top position in Category B, Assam joins Goa and Uttar Pradesh in setting benchmarks for mining sector readiness. The ranking is expected to boost investment prospects in the State and provide a framework for further strengthening exploration and operational efficiency.
