Guwahati, Nov 12: Assam celebrated a proud cultural moment as two artisans from the state received the prestigious National Handicrafts Awards, drawing praise from the Chief Minister. In a message shared on X, he announced that Bapukan Payeng of Majuli and Sabina Teronpi of Karbi Anglong had been recognised for their exceptional craftsmanship.
The awards were presented by Droupadi Murmu, whom the CM thanked for acknowledging the talent and dedication of artisans from Assam. He said the honour reflects how the state continues to make its mark on the national stage, especially through its rich indigenous art forms.
The recognition is expected to give a fresh push to Assam’s traditional crafts, with both awardees bringing attention to the deep-rooted artistry of their communities. The CM added that such national appreciation strengthens the confidence of local craftspersons and highlights the importance of preserving their cultural heritage.
