GUWAHATI, Sept 9: The Assam Pradesh BJP has extended its support to the people of Himachal Pradesh affected by recent floods and landslides, an official statement said on Tuesday.
Following days of torrential rainfall and cloudbursts, several districts of Himachal Pradesh including Gullu, Poonna, Shimla, Chamba, Barmour, Kangra, and Sundar Nagar have suffered severe damage, disrupting public life and displacing thousands.
In a gesture of solidarity, the Assam BJP, under the leadership of chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, dispatched ten truckloads of relief materials from Assam Bhawan, New Delhi.
The consignment includes 2,000 tarpaulins, 2,000 blankets, 1,000 bedding mattresses, over 2,000 track suits for men and women, 500 electric stoves, 500 school bags, and 500 sets of essential kitchen utensils.
The relief materials were flagged off in the presence of State BJP President Dilip Saikia, Union Ministers Sarbananda Sonowal and Pabitra Margherita, MP and National Secretary Kamakhya Prasad Tasa, and State BJP In-charge Harish Dwivedi.
State BJP president Dilip Saikia remarked, “Service is the soul of the organisation — this is the principal mantra of the BJP. With this mantra as our guiding light, the BJP has always remained steadfast in serving the people. It is our moral and sacred duty to stand beside every distressed person of the State and the Nation. By sending this modest consignment of relief materials to the flood-affected people of Himachal Pradesh today, we feel that we have fulfilled a sacred responsibility.”
